How It Works

Based on the proven ActiVia platform, the IP-BTV edition is a fully managed system leveraging advanced IP-based networking. It runs over any combination of satellite, terrestrial WAN, wireless WAN or other IP-capable networks, providing multiple simultaneous data delivery streams over multi-path networks. STRATACACHE's award-winning OmniCast content delivery engine is utilized for reliable multicast distribution. The ActiVia solution automatically pre-populates video to disk-enabled STBs during non-peak hours, allowing full on-demand (PVR) content access via remote office users at any time. Additionally, the platform supports the latest MPEG-4 H.264 format and Windows Media codecs for exceptional video quality at low bandwidth rates.

ActiVia for Media IP-BTV consists of a "core" system, which is commonly located in the broadcast/production center of the network, and "player" devices, which reside in distributed locations across the network. Player devices can be one of several formats, including diskless or disk-based STBs, software player agents for existing PCs or server systems, media player devices driving LCD/plasma displays as digital signs, or other video access points within the customer network.

At the broadcast center, the ActiVia Content Management interface allows users to ingest, store, index, search, and manage a large library of pre-produced content, determining what content needs to be distributed to particular players, groups, regions or business units, and automatically synchronizing collections of videos between "core" and "player" devices. The ActiVia scheduler and playlist generator schedules live events and automatically tunes remote media players to particular live channels at predetermined times of the day.

Additionally, the system includes a full reporting module (ActiVia Constellation Reporter), which provides a centralized reporting engine capable of rendering global, regional, local or individual player reports on status, media assigned, individual user sessions, etc. over the course of any defined or ad-hoc time period.
