Axcela Web Acceleration
Serve up to 10, 50, or 100 times the traffic your origin web server would normally be capable of serving using STRATACACHE Axcela Web Acceleration Appliances. Axcela appliances are the definitive solution for high-throughput, heavy workload web servers.
By integrating STRATACACHE Axcela web acceleration appliances, or "reverse proxies", you can dramatically reduce the load on your origin web servers. In "reverse proxy" mode, pre-load the Axcela with all of the static content contained on your website, and "pin" the most popular web objects to the Axcela’s high speed dynamic memory. You free up your web server resources to concentrate on processing dynamic content, while Axcela handles repetitive calls to static content.
In this diagram all user requests to the origin web servers are transparently redirected by the layer 4 switch to the STRATACACHE Axcela. The Axcela serves as a transparent proxy between the website user and the origin web server.
• Web servers handle 10-100 times the amount of traffic
• Frees Web server resources for improved processing power
• Website Users enjoy faster sessions and session persistence
• Maximizes the speed of Content Delivery
• Enhanced Web server Security"In the Flow" Modification of Content with powerful data management API
• Reduces ongoing server infrastructure, support, service and management costs
With Axcela web acceleration, visitors to your site enjoy remarkably faster sessions, while retaining session persistence. In several live customer environment tests under heavy load, STRATACACHE Axcela responded and served popular content to website users in 1-5 Ms, versus the 600-1200 Ms responses coming from the origin web server. Axcela owes its extremely high throughput rates to a specially designed 64-bit processor architecture, and large pool of extremely fast memory running a high-performance proxy kernel on Linux or FreeBSD.
Enhanced web server security is another benefit of Axcela. Since all transactions must first pass thru your hardened STRATACACHE Axcela appliance, threats of hacking or Denial of Service attacks reaching your origin web servers is minimal.

Furthermore, your network can use the Axcela's powerful StrataCORE API as a "transformation point", serving different content to requests coming from varying client platforms. For example, the API enabled Axcela detects that a user request is coming from a low bandwidth wireless connection vs. a high bandwidth broadband connection. The API then provides larger objects (byte size) with true 32-bit color to the broadband user, while sending the same objects in a smaller, 16-bit format to the low bandwidth user. The StrataCORE API is available in all STRATACACHE Enterprise products, and provides such a powerful customization environment for content requests and responses, that variations on the "in the flow" modification of content are virtually limitless.
Axcela's advanced features can be customized by your technical staff, or with help from STRATACACHE Engineering Services to meet the specific mission of any project.
